Port Stephens Guided Fishing Tours

Kunara Charters is Port Stephens longest established Fishing Charter business and has the greatest accumulated knowledge of the best and most productive reef areas surrounding Nelson Bay, Port Stephens and Broughton Island.

We conduct fishing trips encompassing an area from Stockton Beach through to Seal Rocks and around the famous Broughton Island.

Kunara also provides trips for beach fishing, inside harbour and estuary fishing, dolphin watching, whale watching, diving or sightseeing trips, as well as a Ferry service to Broughton Island, recently voted "Number One" offshore Australian Island by "Getaway".

All trips depart from - The Public Wharf/ Game Fish Weigh Station - within the Nelson Bay Boat Harbour

Although departure times, length of trips and areas of operation can be varied to suit the individual, we generally keep to the following. We can also custom design to suit any purpose.
M.V. Kunara is a purpose built 34ft Steber in full N.S.W. Waterways 1C Survey, certified to carry 18 passengers and 2 crew up to 30 miles out to sea and 100 miles laterally along the coast (we prefer to limit the number to 12, so as to ensure fishing room for all).

A qualified master is in control at all times, assisted by a certified crew member. Both have extensive experience as seamen and anglers, and will be pleased to teach and share their knowledge with novice anglers and share their experience, so everyone can take part in a great day of fishing.

We supply passengers with a NSW Fishing Licence

The crew will even clean and ice your catch for you ready to take home.

Kunara is fitted with all the latest electronic fishing aids including GPS, Radar, Echo Sounder, etc, to assist in finding that elusive catch.

Full toilet and shower facilities are fitted and Kunara is fully equipped with all necessary safety gear.

Tea and coffee are provided and a light meal is served on our longer charters. If you wish to bring along other refreshments or drinks, iceboxes are provided.

INSIDE HARBOUR AND ESTUARY FISHING
Kunara has been organising these for many years. We use specialised boats to fish the shallows around the various oyster racks and target the Flathead and Whiting on the sand flats. Departure times and trips organised to suit individuals and small groups.

Dolphin Watching
Take a small group for a cruise around the harbour and watch the bottlenosed dolphins play right next to the boat. Watch and photograph them as they catch a ride and leap on the bow wave, coming close enough to wonder who's watching who?

Whale Watching
Photograph the whales as they breach the waters surface to take a much needed breath of air as they pass by the port starting from mid-August on their long annual migration from their Antarctic feeding grounds to the north coast of Queensland to give birth in the tropics before returning to Antarctica with their calves ending their long migration period at the end of November.

Offshore and Harbour Cruises.
Take a leisurely cruise around the harbour enjoying the many beautiful sites of Port Stephens. Or for something a little different, venture out of the bay to have a look at the picturesque coastline and island views of this wonderful region.
