Arnhemland Barramundi Nature Lodge

Located on the far North coast of Australia’s Northern Territory, Arnhemland is the largest and most remote Aboriginal land reserve in the country. The Lodge is located on the coast of this reserve, near the Aboriginal community of Maningrida, which is approximately 300 kilometres (60 minute flight) to the north east of Darwin, the capital city of the Northern Territory.

This remote and exclusive area offers outstanding barramundi and sportfishing safaris from March to December. You will have unfettered exclusive access to 6 pristine Arnhemland rivers, several coastal creeks and estuaries, fish-rich tropical islands and magnificent inland lagoons. You will primarily target the famous barramundi but you will most likely encounter a number of other saltwater species such as threadfin and blue salmon, mangrove jack, golden snapper, coral trout, Queenfish, Spanish mackerel, broad-barred mackerel, long tail tuna, giant trevally, golden trevally, cobia and that icon sportfish the giant herring. There are also opportunities for freshwater lagoon fishing from barramundi, tarpon and Saratoga.

Fishing is from 6m fully surveyed sport\fishers powered by reliable 4 stroke motors, piloted by our experienced and knowledgeable guides.

The remote and extensive waterways in this Arnhemland region have a well earned reputation for offering some of the best barramundi fishing in the world. The upmarket safari lodge is the only operation in this region where entry is restricted to people holding permits issued by the Aboriginal traditional land owners. The comfortable lodge is situated on an escarpment fringe overlooking the Liverpool and Tomkinson River Valleys.

Purpose-designed deluxe en-suite cabins offer a taste of luxury in an otherwise remote and unspoiled environment. The main lodge includes an extensive dining and lounge area and shaded deck with our “Escarpment Bar’ overlooking the spectacular Tomkinson River Valley.

Comfortable Tropical Habitat Tents can also be provided at a reduced rate compared to the luxurious Deluxe en-suite Cabins.

As well as fishing, we are also able to offer a wide range of activities for non-fishing companions including Aboriginal culture and bird watching tours. No visit is complete without a trip to the Maningrida Arts & Culture Centre (the Djomi Museum) where you may purchase traditional Arnhemland Aboriginal Artwork at very attractive prices.

The Region

Maningrida – Arnhemland, in Australia’s Northern Territory, is a vast unpopulated region where the eerie sound of the didgeridoo from the Aboriginal Corroboree still drones over the land.
Aboriginal people have lived in this land for thousands of years in remote isolation, but now you are welcome to visit and share the love of their country.

Arnhemland is larger than most European nations, but less than 20,000 people live in this remarkable wilderness, which has been isolated from European settlement since 1931 when it was declared an Aboriginal Reserve.

Today the region m emains very much as it has always been. While local Aborigines live in houses and towns, and move about with motorized transport, the traditional bush life and cultural links of a gathering, hunting and fishing society continues.

Maningrida is on the Liverpool River estuary, and by road over 500 km. away from the Northern Territory’s capital city Darwin. The town is sited roughly in the centre of coastal Arnhemland. It houses a remarkable talented group of people who produce some of the finest Aboriginal paintings and crafts in Australia.

The people of this region, which comprises 16 different clans – each with their own language – have formed the Bawinanga Aboriginal Corporation (BAC), a regional development centre for advancing the people into economic enterprise, business and employment opportunities. The corporation’s umbrella covers over 10,000 km of Arnhemland, where it provides essential services to homeland (out station) settlements – education, health, training and sustainable developments.
Cairns / Port Stephens - QLD

Cairns is still the fishing capital of the world when it comes to catching Giant Black Marlin. With the combination of Captain Tim Dean aboard the 43 footer “Calypso”, the chances of catching a Giant Black aboard a luxury vessel have never been better. The drop off of the continental shelf on the edge of the Great Barrier Reef is the only known spawning grounds of these Giant Blacks, and the period between September and December is the peak time for you to try your angling ability at nailing one of these majestic giants of the sea.

The Barrier Reef region is also home to many other sportfish such as Yellow fin and Dogtooth Tuna, Mackerel, Wahoo, and Dolphin fish just to list a few.

The Cairns region is now on a high with tourism booming, and why not, it's a fantastic place for a holiday.

We can tailor make a package to suit all your needs and the fishing grounds off Cairns are just waiting.

The pride of our fleet is “Calypso”, a 43 O'Brien driven by twin 450hp Cummins computerised engines with a top speed of 30 knots. The skipper (Tim Dean) and his crew take pride in running a very clean and tidy vessel. The success they have achieved for their clients in tournaments and normal charters is outstanding.

January to April, the vessel will be based at Nelson Bay, Port Stephens. Not only can you enjoy one of Sydney’s closest holiday regions, but you can also experience some of the best fishing for Striped Marlin in the world.

Big Blue Marlin and small Blacks are also famous in this area.

In the past couple of seasons many World Records on fly have been captured at Port Stephens. This area has quickly become world renowned for its Bill fishery.

Bermagui

Bermagui was one of the favourite haunts of well known author/angler Zane Grey, who was the first many years ago, to publicise the incredible fishing in this area.

Today, this magical fishing resort, located as Zane Grey might have put it, in the “deep south” of New South Wales, is where keen anglers journey regularly to challenge the ocean giants like Tuna, Marlin and Sharks.

Bermagui is more than just great fishing though, it has miles of beautiful beaches, scenic drives and an abundance of art and craft shops that make it a popular and inexpensive holiday resort for the whole family.

There are no international-standard hotels or airport facilities, but the available accommodation is comfortable and the pubs are friendly. Bermagui is a fisherman's town, with rustic wharves where its fleet of commercial trawlers and long-liners share harbour space with an ever-increasing number of small pleasure craft.

The big word in Bermagui is Marlin as well as Yellow fin Tuna and large consignments find their way from here to “Sashimi” gourmets in Japan.

Montague Island, about 15 nautical miles north of Bermagui, produces some spectacular catches of Yellowtail Kingfish on jigs, or live bait, and now and again some lucky angler captures a Marlin. In the main, our packages are geared around Marlin, from November through June.

During the summer months, from December through April, vast schools of small bait- size Tuna are available. These fish are bridle-rigged and trolled live, and have produced some outstanding Marlin and Yellow Fin captures.

Services & Facilities

Bermagui offers the keen angler a low budget and potentially productive fishing holiday.

We have a number of game vessels to choose from to suit everybody's needs. All vessels are completely equipped with the latest technology and tackle. Our crews travel from around Australia to be at Bermagui when the Marlin and Tuna are in season.

Various accommodation can be arranged to suit your standards and budget.

Millbrook Lakes - VIC

One hours drive from Melbourne to Ballarat has you in the heart of Victoria. Just 20 minutes from Ballarat puts you at Millbrook Lakes Lodge - a private trout fly fishery.

Millbrook Lakes opened in March 1997 and has provided exceptional fly fishing ever since. The Lodge is located on the edge of a lake containing “wild” Brown and Rainbow Trout up to 14 pounds.

The two lodges, designed to accommodate a maximum of twelve people, are fully self contained with two bathrooms, a spa and an open stone fireplace - which is ideal for sitting around and telling those you-should-have-seen-the-size-of-it stories.

Guests of Millbrook Lakes Lodge have exclusive access to the lodges and three catch and release lakes. Unlike a motel, one night’s midweek accommodation at Millbrook Lakes Lodge gets you fishing from dawn on day one to last light on day two. The lodge must be vacated at 6pm on last day for cleaning.

Weekends start at 9am Friday and go right through to last light Sunday. With all individual and corporate bookings catering and guiding can be arranged. No previous fly fishing experience is necessary.

All guiding packages include tuition, transport, all fly fishing equipment (Sage & Loomis), morning and afternoon tea as well as lunch.

The guiding packages have extensive knowledge and experience and also specialise in rivers and streams.

Services & Facilities

Trout School: Whether you're a novice who is transfixed by the serenity or an intermediate fly fisher who wouldn't mind advancing your technique, the Trout School is for you.

Clinics are conducted on our private fly fishing lakes located near Ballarat. The lakes range in size from three to thirty acres and contain “Wild” Brown and Rainbow trout up to 14 pounds. The clinics cover casting, entomology, presentation, fly selection and how to get the most out of those one-that-got-away-stories. All you need to become an effective fly fisher.

Clinics commences 7pm Friday and finish Sunday evening with various instructors. The package includes accommodation at Millbrook Lodge, all equipment, meals, course information and materials. A maximum of 12 people per clinic ensures all attendees receive intensive tuition.
Peter Hayes Guided Fishing

It is a beautiful, unspoilt environment that attracts fishermen from around the world! The attractions are many. Perhaps it is trying to fool the Wild Brown Trout that can be as cunning as any fish. Or is it the sight fishing on the lake flats that makes Tasmania so special? Seeing the fish first and then having to present the fly in exactly the right place certainly adds a keen edge to the fishing.

The decisions can be difficult - whether to cast to “tailing” trout in the extreme margins at first light, or “polaroiding” cruising shadows across the open flats under a cobalt sky in the middle of a warm summer day. Each is a real Tasmanian specialty.

Maybe some other parts of the world there maybe bigger and more trout, but where else has the trout fishing variety or unique fauna and flora Tassie has to offer.

We offer one of the most professional guiding services available anywhere in the world. We do not compromise on anything. These are some of the qualities you can expect from our service:

We fish when the fish are on, not only from 9 to 5pm.
We use sport fishing boats to access the fish when required.
Our guides don’t fish unless expressly asked to do so by clients, or for demonstration purposes.
Our guides all enjoy working with people, and excel in communicating the skills of fly and spin fishing.
All of our guides are holders of the following certificates: First aid, Public vehicle and Coxswain certificates; this means you are in safe hands.
Our guiding business carries public liability insurance and we are members of the Tasmanian Professional Trout Guides Association.
We are permanently based at Miena, which is the most central location for you to experience the best of the highland lake fisheries.
We are entering the tenth year of business and our level of repeat clientele and advance bookings is testament to our professionalism.
“It would be hard to imagine better season than this past three!” This is how owner/guide Peter Hayes summed up his 2003 Tasmanian trout season, and Tasmanian trout he certainly knows!

Tasmania offers the ultimate in trout fishing. The myriad of rivers and streams, lakes and tan's are an anglers’ paradise.
