Arnhemland Barramundi Nature Lodge Located on the far North coast of Australia’s Northern Territory, Arnhemland is the largest and most remote Aboriginal land reserve in the country. The Lodge is located on the coast of this reserve, near the Aboriginal community of Maningrida, which is approximately 300 kilometres (60 minute flight) to the north east of Darwin, the capital city of the Northern Territory. This remote and exclusive area offers outstanding barramundi and sportfishing safaris from March to December. You will have unfettered exclusive access to 6 pristine Arnhemland rivers, several coastal creeks and estuaries, fish-rich tropical islands and magnificent inland lagoons. You will primarily target the famous barramundi but you will most likely encounter a number of other saltwater species such as threadfin and blue salmon, mangrove jack, golden snapper, coral trout, Queenfish, Spanish mackerel, broad-barred mackerel, long tail tuna, giant trevally, golden trevally, cobia and that icon sportfish the giant herring. There are also opportunities for freshwater lagoon fishing from barramundi, tarpon and Saratoga. Fishing is from 6m fully surveyed sport\fishers powered by reliable 4 stroke motors, piloted by our experienced and knowledgeable guides. The remote and extensive waterways in this Arnhemland region have a well earned reputation for offering some of the best barramundi fishing in the world. The upmarket safari lodge is the only operation in this region where entry is restricted to people holding permits issued by the Aboriginal traditional land owners. Cairns / Port Stephens - QLD Cairns is still the fishing capital of the world when it comes to catching Giant Black Marlin. With the combination of Captain Tim Dean aboard the 43 footer “Calypso”, the chances of catching a Giant Black aboard a luxury vessel have never been better. The drop off of the continental shelf on the edge of the Great Barrier Reef is the only known spawning grounds of these Giant Blacks, and the period between September and December is the peak time for you to try your angling ability at nailing one of these majestic giants of the sea. The Barrier Reef region is also home to many other sportfish such as Yellow fin and Dogtooth Tuna, Mackerel, Wahoo, and Dolphin fish just to list a few. January to April, the vessel will be based at Nelson Bay, Port Stephens. The large river system, many of them un-named, are teeming with fish and the ever famous Barramundi can also be found and skillfully caught in tidal creeks. Water Lilies, majestic ferns and many species of birds are abundant along the ever imposing saltwater crocodile. Bermagui Bermagui was one of the favourite haunts of well known author/angler Zane Grey, who was the first many years ago, to publicise the incredible fishing in this area. Today, this magical fishing resort, located as Zane Grey might have put it, in the “deep south” of New South Wales, is where keen anglers journey regularly to challenge the ocean giants like Tuna, Marlin and Sharks. Bermagui is more than just great fishing though, it has miles of beautiful beaches, scenic drives and an abundance of art and craft shops that make it a popular and inexpensive holiday resort for the whole family. There are no international-standard hotels or airport facilities, but the available accommodation is comfortable and the pubs are friendly. Bermagui is a fisherman's town, with rustic wharves where its fleet of commercial trawlers and long-liners share harbour space with an ever-increasing number of small pleasure craft. The big word in Bermagui is Marlin as well as Yellow fin Tuna and large consignments find their way from here to “Sashimi” gourmets in Japan. Montague Island, about 15 nautical miles north of Bermagui, produces some spectacular catches of Yellowtail Kingfish on jigs, or live bait, and now and again some lucky angler captures a Marlin. In the main, our packages are geared around Marlin, from November through June. During the summer months, from December through April, vast schools of small bait- size Tuna are available. These fish are bridle-rigged and trolled live, and have produced some outstanding Marlin and Yellow Fin captures. Various accommodation can be arranged to suit your standards and budget. Millbrook Lakes - VIC One hours drive from Melbourne to Ballarat has you in the heart of Victoria. Just 20 minutes from Ballarat puts you at Millbrook Lakes Lodge - a private trout fly fishery. Millbrook Lakes opened in March 1997 and has provided exceptional fly fishing ever since. The Lodge is located on the edge of a lake containing “wild” Brown and Rainbow Trout up to 14 pounds. The two lodges, designed to accommodate a maximum of twelve people, are fully self contained with two bathrooms, a spa and an open stone fireplace - which is ideal for sitting around and telling those you-should-have-seen-the-size-of-it stories. Guests of Millbrook Lakes Lodge have exclusive access to the lodges and three catch and release lakes. Unlike a motel, one night’s midweek accommodation at Millbrook Lakes Lodge gets you fishing from dawn on day one to last light on day two. The lodge must be vacated at 6pm on last day for cleaning. Weekends start at 9am Friday and go right through to last light Sunday. With all individual and corporate bookings catering and guiding can be arranged. Services & Facilities Trout School: Whether you're a novice who is transfixed by the serenity or an intermediate fly fisher who wouldn't mind advancing your technique, the Trout School is for you. Clinics are conducted on our private fly fishing lakes located near Ballarat. The lakes range in size from three to thirty acres and contain “Wild” Brown and Rainbow trout up to 14 pounds. The clinics cover casting, entomology, presentation, fly selection and how to get the most out of those one-that-got-away-stories. All you need to become an effective fly fisher. Clinics commences 7pm Friday and finish Sunday evening with various instructors. The package includes accommodation at Millbrook Lodge, all equipment, meals, course information and materials.
