Barra n Fly

Welcome to the home of "Billabong Sport Fishing". We cater for all types of fishing. Far North Queensland offers a diverse range of fishing, from wading in a rainforest creek, fly-fishing native fresh water fish, to muscling blue water pelagrics. The most sought after sport fish is the Barramundi, which is our specialty. Nothing beats drifting casting lures and flies at our large range of tropical sports fish in the north's premier location, the Hinchinbrook Channel.
Dave Bradley has lived in the Tully area the majority of his life , he has been lure and flyfishing the regions waters for the past 14 years. This type of fishing is not only a very exciting way to fish but also very productive method for capturing the area’s prime sportsfish.
Dave’s knowledge of the area is one that only can be achieved by living and fishing in the region for a considerable time , this allows the best possible fishing trip regardless of tides or weather.
The current president of the Mission Beach Game Fishing Club and govener of the local Fish Stocking Society keeps him in the know with local activities and fishing reports. The fishstocking program is working well in the local rivers , stocking 40 000 barramundi fingerlings each year into the local waterways.
Dave is in his 5th season guiding in 2002, also working on northern gameboats for experience skippers, Kim Andersen and Barry Cross. Most of Dave’s guiding experience is from the local area with some short periods on the Cape York’s west coast.
Tying flies commercially as well as for our use keeps Dave busy on those rainy days, fishing the norths Billfish and Barra touraments are an important part of R and D for our guide keeping up on the new developments . The team has many wins and places under their belt. A days fishing in the river can see barramundi , mangrove jack , sooty grunter , tarpon , threadfin salmon , trevally , flathead , pikey bream and javelin fish all captured on lure or fly.

· Hinchinbrook Channel / Missionary Bay

The Hinchinbrook region boasts great fishing equally matched by breathtaking mountainous backdrops , the area is a saltwater sportsfishers dream. The channel has been closed to commercial gill netting for a number of years , allowing the barramundi stocks to improve in both size and numbers . The channel is mostly flats fishing , sand and mangrove flats stretching for 30 miles holding the best tropical sportsfish the country has to offer . The channel has a good population of permit and golden trevally , the best times of year are through the winter months although it’s a slow time for barra so either side of winter would be your best fishing opportunities. With its rainforest creeks and rugged mountain scenery there is no better place to battle the mighty barramundi or many other fine sportsfish . Hinchinbrook is the ideal place for an extended trip with so many species to target and so many options in the area.
