Please call in, drop us a line The boating bug began for the Rowell’s when Bill Rowell secured a job at Treharne’s boatshed at Manly as a tender boy at the age of 12. In 1947 the Rowell Family secured a waterfront cottage at Mackerel Beach, here is where Bill, a 17 year old, developed his sailing skills onboard their Vaucluse Junior. In 1960 the family moved to Newport and by 1974, Bill purchased the Marina at the bottom of his street. Bill Rowell’s Newport Marina set the precedent for how boats are sold today. The whole family played a part in the development of the new culture in brokerage, maintenance and repairs. 1975 saw an expansion of Rowell Marine to the Royal Motor Yacht Club where Bill secured a long tenure of the brokerage office, large shed and three slipways. By 1987 David Rowell (Skeet) took over the business which was the beginning of Broken Bay Slipway and by 2000 after 23 years at the RMYC the family business moved to its current location at Heron Cove Marina – next door to Newport Arms Hotel. Finally in 2005 Skeet has realised his dream and has all the facets of the family business under one name, one phone number and one website Rowell Marine. 2005 also saw the opening of the Newport main road shop incorporating brokerage and marine lifestyle products complementing the existing Marina and associated businesses at Heron Cove Marina Rowell Marine Mechanics are Inboard, Outboard and Stern drive Specialists. Our head of mechanics Jason Bott is a member of Boating Industry Australia (BIA), the Marine Industry Mechanical Repairs Association (MIMRA), and is an Approved Volvo Diagnostic & General Diesel Engineer and ensuring the quality guarantee that you and your vessel deserve. Every customer who books a service receives a service report and photos of engine parts which need replacing, all at no extra charge.
