River Quays Marina has a long association with the restoration of traditional timber vessels. Our team of experienced shipwrights take interest and pride in putting their skills of traditional boat construction to use.

Timber vessels recently restored include Halvorsen cruisers, Dragon Class yachts and a Riva Ariston.

As owners of timber vessels are well aware, maintenance can be very labour intensive. To assist in budgeting, costings are collated prior to work and monitored daily, during works.

To expedite repairs, and assist in efficiency, major works are carried out in our 1600sq metre, undercover, secure work shed. Ease of access to vessels is gained by standing them adjacent to our raised shipwright loft, allowing deck level access to vessels under repair.

Major hull modifications are possible; either to adapt a vessel to the owners' special needs, or to update an older racing design to a more current shape. This includes transom modifications to incorporate steps; removal and 'fairing in' of rudder blades; removal of existing cabins, soles, and refitting to plans provided.

We are experienced at working in conjunction with designers and naval architects to achieve a correct result. Equally, we are pleased to work with the boat owner to achieve their preferred result.

Modifications can be effected in all mediums of construction, including solid laminate; composite; strip plank cedar; aluminium and steel.

Structural repairs required as the result of an accident, or wear and tear, are a major part of our work.

Our approach to comprehensive and correct repairs is uncompromising. The damage suffered as the result of a collision, or grounding, can be far reaching. We take care to ensure that all damage is assessed and attended to during repairs.

With vessels showing signs of age and deterioration of critical areas, such as bulkheads and mast compression posts, careful assessment and recommendations are made prior to dismantling.

Reshaping and removal of, or adding, weight to keels of many high profile racing yachts has established River Quays Marina as experts in this field.

Importantly, the modification must not only be extremely accurate as designed, but be correctly carried out to ensure the ongoing finish of the keel shape.

In addition to keel modifications and bulb fitting we have built many composite rudders to plans provided.

We are committed to accuracy and strength and only premium materials and techniques are used for these extremely critical areas. This is evidenced by the ongoing sea worthiness of all our previous work in this field.

We are able to offer fixed prices for removal of antifoul and refinishing of the underwater surface.

Osmosis treatment is carried out using the best materials and proven repair methods. Experience has shown that each vessel with osmosis shows slightly different characteristics and may call for different measures to ensure there is no return of the problem.

Repairs are carried out in consultation with the chosen coating company and regular moisture level readings are taken during the required drying time, usually around six weeks, prior to the application of new coatings.

River Quays boasts an experienced in-house team of painters who take pride in delivering excellent and long lasting refinishing of hull topsides and decks.

Having a designated spraying shed, with all the facilities, assists in delivering highly detailed and cost-effective results. We deliver a first rate "off the gun" finish ensuring a long lasting result.
