SailingWorld is run by Botany Bay Sailing School, one of Sydney's leading yachting instructors with a wide variety of sailing lessons and boating holidays.
Matthew Wren: - is the owner of Botany Bay Sailing School and also does large part of the instruction.

His most pleasant experiences are day sailing and coastal cruising. Matthew has extensive knowledge of the Whitsunday's and has made more than a dozen trips to the islands.

Matthew and his assistants take time to demonstrate and pass on the knowledge that comes with time. In a fun and practical experience you will enjoy.

Qualifications:
He is a qualified Australian Yachting Federation Instructor and he also holds the Australian Waterways Master class 5 qualifications.

In addition to his 9 years full time as a professional sailing instructor, he is also fond of winning races & has won the following titles.

Cherub Australian Champion representing
Magic 25 Australian Champion as Crew.

Suitability

Suitable for those with little or no sailing experience.

Content This course covers the fundamentals of sailing.
At the end of the course you will be able to carry out basic sailing manoeuvres.

Courses start every day. We are open 7 days a week.

Format You will train on our Sonata 26 foot yacht.
We limit the boat’s complement to four students. The course consists of four three hour practical sailing lessons.

Understand navigation marks
Sail upwind and tack
Sail downwind and gybe
Sail around a triangular course
Read telltails
Understand nautical terminology
Understand the rigging on the yacht
Know which vessels have right of way
Steer the yacht
Determine wind direction
Get the yacht underway
Trim the sails and understand the points of sailing
Determine tide direction
Tie figure eight and bowline knots and know the use of each.

Levels one, two and three are conducted on the Skyrider class.

Vagabonds
A small dinghy recently designed for learning to sail. Vagabonds are 14 feet long and have a small sails, they are excellent as a training boat with many good safety features. Sailing also uses communication skills, decision making processes and is very social.

Our classes are fun!
Days and times are flexible every day of the year and you can join in on your own.

Each level is 4 x 2 hour sessions and after completing the three levels you are issued with the Competent Crew Certificate.

Early booking is required to secure a spot
Please bring enclosed shoes to get wet, warm clothes, towel and change of clothes.

Once you have completed the three levels you are encouraged to sail regularly here at the club. Once trained, you can crew on the many other classes of sailing boats or you can purchase your own boat to sail here. Skippers at the club require crew and after our lessons you will fit right into this role.
With the growing popularity of sailing we always need more crew.
