Sailability Penrith Lakes
Sailability Penrith Lakes was established in 2002 at the Sydney International Regatta Centre at Penrith, where the opportunity to make the Centre the focus of sailing for the disabled in the Greater West was a strong motivation.
Four years on, Sailability Penrith Lakes has around 95 members, either sailors or volunteers. There are twelve Access dinghies comprising of five 2.3s, two Access Breeze Dinghies and five 303’s. We have our own shed, pontoon and wheelchair hoist, also we have seven Yachting Australia qualified staff (YATC) at the Regatta Centre.
Sailability Penrith Lakes is supported by Penrith Council and Sydney International Regatta Centre, AMP, National Australia Bank, Western Weekender Newspaper.
Sail days and Come ‘N’Try Days are held on Sundays once a month from 11am to mid afternoon right through the year.
Access Dinghies were designed to appeal to people who would love to go sailing, but find it too difficult or uninviting to do so. Whether as a recreation, sport or a therapeutic activity, the Access Dinghy design features allow total novices, with no experience, the ability to sail with little or no tuition.
The Access Dinghies are:
Unsinkable and virtually uncapsizable
Incredibly stable and responsive
Joystick steering-simply steer left to go left, or steer right to go right
Are made so anyone can sail them regardless of ability
Sailability Penrith Lakes also caters for the disabled. We have a hoist to help lift those wheel chair bound in and out of the boats with ease.
