Welcome to Graham Barclay Marine. We are proud to announce our latest franchise agreement with YAMAHA. We are the largest boating and fishing centre in the Great Lakes on the NSW Mid North coast with an extensive selection of Boats (Quintrex, Tournament Pleasure Boats, Bayliner, Bargain Boat Bits), Outboard Motors (Evinrude, Honda, Yamaha, MerCruiser) and we also stock a large range of fishing tackle and boating equipment.

The business that is now Graham Barclay Marine Pty Ltd was born in 1965 when former Australian and World rated skiing champion Graham Barclay was lured into the commercial side of the sport. Born and bred to an oyster farming family in Tuncurry, Graham had moved into water- skiing after a successful career in first grade rugby league, where he played for St George and Canterbury.

A badly damaged crucial ligament (in the knee) ended his playing career. Back home a with a 500 pound parting bonus he received from Canterbury helped him buy a speed boat and he started getting serious about waterskiing.

With the coaching assistance of the legendary Fred Williams, Graham went on to win state and national titles and at the peak of his career, he placed third in the World in a Slalom Event at the Championships in Milan Italy, in 1959.

During his career, Graham had been persuaded to use Outboard Marine Australia motors in his waterskiing, and had posed for their advertisements. Their Sales manager suggest he try selling a few, and, thanks to his association with the brand, his initial attempts were a big success.

People started knocking on the door of Graham's flat in Mactintosh Street looking for more. So he sold more. He then tried selling boats with a similar response.

Graham entered the industry formally in 1965 and took on Johnson outboard's and Quintrex boat franchises for Forster. He moved into premises on the Tuncurry waterfront in the early 70s and the business grew and grew, taking on other franchises.

About mid 1975 Graham sold out and followed other business interests. But before long he was missing his boats and motors and returned to them in Kularoo Drive premises in 1985. Again the business grew and grew, covering mainly the Great Lakes, Manning and Hunter area's but thanks to national level advertising, new boats have gone as far as Western Australia, Lord Howe Island, Gold Coast and Tasmania.

In 1995, the business moved again to a large and impressive complex on the Lakes Way Forster where we are today. Since the moved the business has tripled and further expansion is expected by christmas 2002.
